Harold Petersen, son of Ole H. and Helga (Nelson) Petersen was born August 6, 1895 at Fullerton, Ne. At an early age, he moved with his parents to St. Paul. On February 24, 1923 he was united in marriage to Allie Blair at Kearney. The couple resided in St. Paul where he worked on road construction. In 1941, they moved to a farm near Princeton, Missouri. Mrs. Petersen died in December of 1970. Mr. Petersen was a World War I Navy veteran having served from 1917 to 1919. He passed from this life Sunday, April 1st at Florence Heights Nursing Home in Omaha at the age of 77 years. He is survived by a number of cousin. Som arkitektdatter lærte hun tidlig å tegne og male og utdannet seg på SHKS og Statens Kunstakademi. Der startet hun jenteklubben Dur, som fortsatt husker hvordan «La bella Carina» på flytende italiensk satte gutta grundig på plass i Roma. Gjennom ekteskapet med Dagbla-journalisten og forfatteren Nils Werenskiold, fant bokormen et miljø hvor man fulgte nøye med på de filosofiske diskusjonene på kontinentet, leste bøkene på originalspråkene og diskuterte og festet til langt på natt. Etter skilsmissen fra Nils ble Karin en populær formingslærer på Vahl og Bjølsen skole, hvor hun laget fanen musikkorpset fortsatt bruker. Karin hadde et våkent blikk for elevene. Selv han som advarte den nye frøkna om at «han forrige ble innlagt etter en uke», forsto raskt at det alltid var lærerikt å lytte til henne. Karin hadde ingen provinsielle og småborgerlige trekk og kunne med sin bramfrihet og vovede sans for humor både forskrekke og begeistre. For oss som lærte Karin å kjenne gjennom Nils og hans nærmeste, sitter vi igjen med en dyp takknemlighet. Med sine fortellinger bidro hun til å utvide bildet av enkeltpersoner i våre familier og deres vennekrets, som var preget av Lysaker-kretsens idealer på godt og vondt. Med Karins død har vi ikke bare mistet et viktig tidsvitne, men en kjær tante og venn. De siste årene var broderiet hennes foretrukne kunstneriske uttrykk og etter Karins død gleder vi oss over vertinnegavene og alle de sene kveldene vi tilbakte i hennes vakre hjem på Bolteløkka. Først og fremst minnes vi alle Karin-historiene, som vi vet vil bli videreformidlet ikke bare av venner og elever, men også av barna som var så glade i sin kule oldetante. Aftenposten 19. Juli 2016 |

89 | Obit for Julie Ann Lundh Mrs. Julie Ann Lundh passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008, in Roseburg, Oregon. She was born on June 21, 1939, in Everett, Washington, to parents, Carl and Estelle Simmons (Thorsen). She was married on February 14, 1989, in Roseburg, to Henrik Lundh, MD. Julie A. Lundh, BSN, received her bachelors degree in nursing from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Julie remained in the field of nursing for over 30 years. She was a head nurse and nursing instructor at both Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon and Kapiolani Community College in Honolulu, Hawaii, before working as a nursing supervisor at Douglas County Hospital in Roseburg. Julie also held a position as a relief nursing instructor at Umpqua Community College until 1995. Julie was actively involved in the American Association of University Women (AAUW); she belonged to and participated in events sponsored by the Women in Black; Julie was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers and recently served as the organization’s secretary. Julie was an avid walker participating in several marathons and she belonged to the Mazamas. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and recently began attending Faith Lutheran Church. Julie moved to Roseburg in November, 1989 preceding her marriage in 1990 to her beloved husband, Henrik Lundh, MD. Julie loved Southern Oregon and spent much of her time walking the foothills of West Roseburg. She enjoyed collecting river rock along the banks of the Umpqua River which she used to decorate her backyard garden. Julie was known to invite her grandchildren on these walks to pick up debris from the road side out of respect for the environment. | |||
90 | Obit Karen Warmer Karen E. Warmer, 63, died peacefully in her home Saturday, June 21, 2003, in San Luis Obispo. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. July 2, at the Cambria Cemetery on Bridge Street. Karen was a loving mother, passionate artist, and devout liberal. She was an advocate of women's rights, and women's issues were often featured in her artwork. She had an independent spirit, a rapier wit, and a generous soul. Karen's interests and enjoyment came from politics, an appreciation of art, humor, gambling, traveling and classical music. Karen was born July 15, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio to Dr. Roger and Margaret Egeberg and schooled in Los Angeles. Throughout her life, she frequently visited the Egeberg family ranch in the hills above Cambria. She graduated from Bennington College in 1961. She was married to Richard Warmer from 1966 to 1984, and had two sons. Karen leaves behind her sons, Craig Warmer of Sherman Oaks, and Alex Warmer of Los Angeles; sisters, Sara McEre of San Luis Obispo, and Joan Hancock of Palo Alto; and brother Olaf Egeberg of San Luis Obispo. 91 | Obit Leonard Walter Kruse The Honorable Leonard Walter Kruse, retired Superior Court Judge of Kitsap County, Washington died on June 18, 2009 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington. Highly esteemed in his professional life and dearly beloved in his personal life, among Leonard's legacies is his vast imprint on the lives of all who knew him and were the recipients of his intelligence, diligence, and overwhelmingly, generous and loving heart. Born in Rochester, Minnesota, to Carlton Walter and Maybelle Pearl (Boyd) Kruse, on 2 September 1934. He grew up in Rochester, graduating from Rochester High School in 1952. Then he attended Carleton College at Northfield, Minnesota and transferred to the University of Washington Law School in 1955, graduating and admitted to the Bar in 1958. Leonard was recently honored for 50 years as a member of the Washington State Bar Association. Leonard served as Assistant Washington State Attorney General in 1959 and 1960. Then on 23 April 1960 he married Ragnhild D. Lundh in Seattle, Washington. This union eventually ended in divorce. From the fall of 1960 through 1961, he was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Kitsap County. On January 1, 1962 , he joined the law firm of Greenwood & Shiers in Port Orchard, Washington and became a partner in 1963. He remained with that firm until 1977 when he left to serve as the lawyer for one client in the construction industry for four years. Then on 23 July 1965 he married Betty Jane (Tesar) Montgomery in Union, Washington. Then on 13 April 1981 they divorced in Kitsap County, Washington. Nineteen days after the end of his second marriage, on 2 May, 1981, he married Brenda Joy (Dobbs) Lundell in Bremerton, Washington. Leonard was appointed to the Superior Court Bench in Kitsap County in January, 1982 and served for 19 years, retiring in January, 2001. Among his many and varied interests and affiliations, he served as Trustee on the Board of the Kitsap Regional Library, Director on the Board of Kitsap Bank and was honored as Port Orchard Man of the Year in 2005. Len's commitment, devotion and involvement in his community was all inclusive, being a member of numerous and varied boards, committees, and activities. He served with dedication, energy, and sincerity. Since Leonard's retirement in 2001, his hours dedicated as volunteer at South Colby Elementary, in Port Orchard, were his most rewarding. His devotion to the kids, teachers, and staff , and in return, their appreciation of him, brought him great joy. He is survived by his beloved wife Brenda, son Jay (Lisa), daughter Pam (Bill), daughter Deb (Richard), daughter Jan (Jaron), 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, and his favorite sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law. | |||
92 | Obit Margaret Egeberg Margaret Egeberg, an accomplished sculptor and widow of President Richard Nixon's chief health official, died of pneumonia at home in Menlo Park on March 31. She was 95. A native of Canada, Margaret McEchron Chahoon was born on Aug. 25, 1904, in Grand Mere, Quebec, where her American father owned a paper mill on the St. Maurice River. There she learned to ski and skate, fish with trout flies and paddle a birchbark canoe so quietly that the moose, beavers and loons were undisturbed. After home schooling, she went to Westover, a girls college preparatory school in Connecticut, and later Pratt Institute in New York to become a dietitian. She met Roger Olaf Egeberg at a Cornell house party and married the medical student in 1929. During World War II, Margaret Egeberg cared for their four children in Cleveland for four years while her husband served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon his return, they moved to Los Angeles, where he served as chief of medicine at the Veterans Hospital for eight years and later as dean of medicine at University of Southern California. Margaret Egeberg started her artistic career working in ceramics, making bowls and plates that were sold at Gumps. She also became president of the League of Women Voters and worked for Planned Parenthood while in Southern California. In 1969, her husband was appointed the assistant secretary for health and scientific affairs at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C. After moving there, she began sculpting and created pieces for the National Institute for Aging and the Mount Vernon Community Mental Health Center, among others on display. The couple traveled widely on diplomatic trips and spent summers at their ranch in Southern California. After her husband's death in 1997, she returned to California. In her West Menlo home, she enjoyed visiting with family and friends, often in the sunny garden adorned with her sculptures. She is survived by her children, Joan Hancock of Palo Alto, Sara McEre of Santa Barbara, Olaf Egeberg of Menlo Park and San Luis Obispo, and Karen Egeberg of Princeton, N.J., as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 93 | Obit Rani Thorsen Rani Thorsen died Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the age of 80, at UCSD Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. Rani was born on February 20, 1933, in Oslo, Norway. She spent much of her youth in Norway before moving permanently to the U.S. in 1972. She settled in La Jolla with her mother and two young sons in 1975 and never left. Rani overcame a lot to provide a great environment for her family. She loved baseball (the Giants and Padres in particular), photography, Indian crafts and culture, knitting, stamps and polar bears. She was an avid walker and enjoyed taking photos all over La Jolla and San Diego, but was particularly fond of the La Jolla Cove and other beach areas. She is survived and missed tremendously by her two sons, Henning and Lars and their families; her brother, Henrik and all of her nephews and her niece; her grandchildren, Lisl, Olina and Finn; as well as her dear friends, Cornelia, Larry, Tommy, Virginia, Jan and others too numerous to mention. An informal wake will be held on March 17, 2013, at 5pm at the Brockton Villa. 94 | Obit Robert "Bob" Steve Mark Robert S. "Bob" Mark, 72, passed away suddenly July 7, 2009, due to heart failure in Apple Valley, California. He was a much loved husband, father, hero, friend and he will be deeply missed. Bob was born January 14, 1937, in Needles, California. He was a lifetime resident of the Golden State and lived happily for 30 years in Big Bear, CA. The past 5 1/2 years he lived in Apple Valley. He retired from the Los Angeles City Fire Dept. after serving 20 years at LAX and Venice, CA. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a troop leader, he was also a small business owner, volunteer fireman and served on various Community Service Boards in Big Bear, CA. During Bob's younger years he enjoyed motorcycle riding, waterskiing, tent-camping, canoeing and photography. He spent time in his middle years back-packing, biking, sailing and traveling. In his later years he tried full-time RV living, became an avid reader, movie-critic, restaurant connoisseur and star-gazer. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 54 years, Margaret E. "Peggy" Mark of Apple Valley, CA; daughter, Pam Adams and son-in-law, Vaughn Adams also of Apple Valley; sons, Robert Mark Jr. of Big Bear Lake, CA, Randy Mark and daughter-in-law, Juliana Mark of Portola, CA; grandson, Jeremy Mark also of Portola, CA; granddaughter, Jennifer Reeh and husband, Shannon Reeh of Honolulu, Hawaii and baby great-granddaughter, Ella Katherine Reeh of Honolulu, HI. Services will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Chapel, 24000 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. 98 | Obitary for Daphne Friele CHESHIRE - Daphne Mundinger Friele, 82, formerly of Cheshire and Wallingford, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Born in Funchal, Madeira, Jan. 17, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Marion and Frederick Cecil Walker. Daphne was predeceased by her loving husbands Col. Robert G. Mundinger and Berent E. Friele, both World War II veterans and former members of the elite Jedburgh Group. Project Jedburgh was a joint allied program, with the OSS whose members parachuted behind enemy lines to assist resistance fighters in France prior to D Day. During World War II, Daphne was a member of the British First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, and served as the Jedburgh commanding officer's secretary. In later years, she worked tirelessly to reunite the French, British and American Jedburgh members and helped record the history of the unit, for which she was awarded the French Ordre National du Merite and the British Member of the Order of the British Empire. She excelled at the many duties and obligations of an Army Officer's wife both in the United States and during overseas assignments. Daphne later worked at the State Department, in Washington, DC, and at the American Embassy in Paris, France. Daphne was gracious to all, an avid gardener, and loved all creatures great and small. Daphne is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gary Smith of Boca Raton, Fla., and Susan and James LaBrecque of Cheshire; additionally, "Grannie Goose" is survived by three loving grandchildren, Barbara Anne Smith, Susan McConnell and Berent LaBrecque; as well as two great-grandchildren, Reilly and Tyler McConnell. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main St., Wallingford. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., June 19 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
