- Charles Michael "Mikey" Cord II died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Mikey was born on March 29, 1963 in Indianapolis, son of Charles Michael and Xenia (Blom) Cord.
As a child he was central to the creation of the Bona Vista pre-school program, and when Kokomo-Center Schools received the special education mandate in 1973, he was at the forefront in the development of special education services.
Mikey is survived by his parents, his sisters, Lynda E. (Steve) Woodard of Kokomo, and Julie A. Cord of Florence, SC, his brother, Rodney L. (Dr. Anila) Cord of Laurinburg, NC, nieces and nephews, Kiley Rebecca (Mark) Simmons, Indianapolis; Justin Davis Kennedy, Kokomo; Evan Christopher, Faith Olivia, and Garrett Michael Cord, Laurinburg; uncle, Dr. Eric (Sally) Blom, aunts, Sally (Michael) Julian and Dorothy M. Cord, cousins Kristin (Butch) Reimer, Eric (Rhonda) Julian, Cheryl (Greg) Curry, Jennifer (Kris) Norton, and all of their children. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Justin and Elsie (Baker) Cord, Knut Arne and Kitty (Davis) Blom, and uncle, John Rodney Cord.
Friends may call at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Private family services will follow and burial will be in Albright Cemetery.
The family thanks the staff at North Willow Center in Indianapolis for their friendship and care of Mikey over the past 30 years and asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Bona Vista Programs 1221 S.
